Masters Marathon Star Joins Thanet AC

Please welcome Ray Butler, our latest signing to Thanet Athletics Club.

I came across Ray when I was walking Jake, and noticed him running a good pace along the seafront. When I later saw him walking his dog, I started a conversation and asked him about his running. It transpires Ray can run a sub 4 hour marathon and is ranked seventh in the country for his age group. Ray is 78 so competes as a master in the V75 bracket.

What’s even more amazing is that Ray only started running at the age of 60, having done nothing beforehand.

He’s real testimony to a positive mindset and how just having a go can achieve something great.

Ray runs in the London Marathon this year and I’m proud that he is wearing a Thanet AC vest.

Despite the likeness- we aren’t related!

If you see Ray out and about on his runs, please do give him an extra shout. Likewise, if you are attending the marathon, Ray will be wearing bib number 46105. You can also send him words of encouragement via the TCS London Marathon app, free to download and install - this will also let you track Ray's progress throughout the event on Sunday 27th April.
