On Tuesday 19th March, following on from the success at the Kent Indoor Championships, over 50 athletes, parents and coaches gathered at The Royal Harbour Academy to hear a club update presented by the committee members.
The evening started with a speech by current Chairman, Terry Shale, who gave a brief history of the club, outlined the recent events within the club and pitched the role of Chairman to the floor in search of someone to relieve him of his duty.
Next up was Head Coach, Daren Hatton along with Club Secretary, Linda Hardy, who between them gave detailed information about the different age groups, their respective training sessions and available competitions as athletes progress throughout the club. There was a large focus on athlete development and parental engagement as the club is run solely by volunteers. We are always looking for more volunteers and we have a number of official and casual positions available. If this is something you may be interested in, please check our volunteering page on the website or contact us using our email or social media.
Lewis Parsons, who is a senior athlete at the club and sits on the committee, then presented the change in membership and respective training fees for the upcoming season along with why such changes were necessary. We as a club are aware that things are difficult at the moment which is why we endeavoured to keep cost increases to a minimum. As always, if cost or payment is an issue, please contact us in confidence via our welfare officer, Christine Lee, who will be able to help with any issues. Memberships are now live on the website and due by 1st April (no later than 30th April, there is a new, free, membership for U11's to act as data collection for medical history and emergency contacts. Otheriwse, memberships remain unchanged from last year.
We closed with Janet Clayton offering ideas for the future as to increase the social community within the club and how we can raise awareness of increasing our athlete base. There were good suggestions from parents and athletes alike, some of which have already been implemented. A large number of parents signed up for volunteering duties, for which we thank you!
For those who didn't attend on Tuesday, a copy of the presentation is attached below. Please be sure to read thoroughly to ensure you are aware of upcoming competitions and changes to membership/training fees.
From all of us at Thanet Athletics Club, we would like to thank you for your support and wish you the best for the upcoming season!
